Sandella's

Walking down Bedford with my favorite neighbor today, we couldn't help but notice that the "coming soon" sign at Sandella's had been replaced by an actual factual restaurant! It looks clean and fresh. The people behind the counter were smiley and helpful. I took home a chicken panini to split with my husband. It set me back a very reasonable $6 and tasted pretty good! Check it out at 148 Bedford. Hope it means we're that much closer to the end of empty store fronts...

Hello to one restaurant, goodbye to another. I hear Egane is closing this week, which is sad because it's the only Korean restaurant in Stamford.

NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! That news about Egane makes me very sad. If they replace it with some crappy chain like Panera Generic Bread, I'm leaving this town.

I was at Sandella over the weekend myself and also found the staff friendly and sweet. The food was tasty but the menu is limited(its only going to take a week or so to try everything on the menu).
Great thing is that they accept the Stamford downtown card for the 10% discount.

Sigh. I feared this day would come. I love Egane, but I just don't think Stamford has developed its Korean tastebuds yet. I really really really hope you heard wrong. I do not want to truck it all the way to Norwalk everytime I get cravings for Korean BBQ or bibimbap.

Sadly, it appears that Egane has sizzled its last pork belly. :(

Stamford has to be least foodie-ish city in the world. No cheese shop, no bakery, plus it's Italian up the wazoo, with a sprinkling of Thai and Indian here and there.

But wait - where is there Korean BBQ in Norwalk???????

Thanks for the story and the confirmation, everyone. I have to say I'm not shocked. The food was amazing - but they could have done more to market themselves (which of course takes a lot of money). That plus the decor didn't look any different from its former incarnation as a sushi place (again, not cheap to change). That on top of stiff competition and a bad economy was a rough mountain to scale.

It also cost them 10k/month to lease the place. I'm surprised they lasted so long.

There is a Korean joint in Wilton but no bbq.

Edo in Norwalk. Haven't been in a long while, but I assume it's still there. Here is a look at their menu. http://www.takeouttonight.com/menus/connecticut/norwalk/06851/edo_2037500623/lunch-dinner/index.html

Anyone know who is going into the egane space?
