Ghost Office

The beautiful post office location at 421 Atlantic Street and the slightly less beautiful - but no less functional - location in Ridgeway Shopping Center are about to be no longer. They are moving to not-yet-identified smaller locations as part of the post office's downsizing efforts.

The Stamford Advocate reports that the post office simply does not need all the space they've got. No word on what's next for the historic location, built in 1916, but the paper quotes a source saying it will be preserved. It's not yet on the market, and the paper indicates that the last offer was an unsuccessful possibility in 2007. I am under the impression that the 2007 effort was the Ritz Carlton. Wish they'd come back! In my humble opinion, that would be tremendous.

Excellent! Now we will have two unused buildings on Atlantic Street - Ye Olde Town Hall and Ye Olde Post Office. And the vacant lot on SW corner Tresser/Atlantic.

I know...it's awful. Maybe they're not keeping up with the kids these days. What about a WiFi connected Green Energy, Lady Gaga and vampire memorabilia megastore?

A bowling alley would do nice there. Downtown sure could use a bowling alley.

I second the call for a bowling alley! It's sad and odd that a city of 100,000+ people doesn't have a single bowling lane.
